HOW MUCH IS A VIDEO PRODUCTION? HOW LONG IS A PIECE OF STRING?
HOW BIG IS A HOUSE? A video project is not a standardized widget you buy in BEST BUY or price shop for through WAL-MART flyers or online retailers. Nor read off a menu board and speak into a clowns head at a Drive thru. Video production budgets are as varied in size and complexity as the creativity behind video projects themselves. To ballpark a budget know that a typical production will need video equipment and crew, 1-5 hours setup and filming at one or more locations followed up by 3-15 (or more) hours (1:5 ratio usually) transfering, editing and post production cutting the video togther and submitting you proofs until you sign off - finally outputting a master to DVD and web video format. So at a rate of $99 per hour on location filming (time, equipment, materials, transport) and $75/hour studio rate (or a $500 dayrate) raw shooting alone can run as little as $200-$500 (depending on crew and special HD equipment needs) whereas a promotional 2-4 minute web video will typically take 3-12 hours of total time and locationa and in the studio to complete ($300-$1200 ) and feature length DVD production might run $800 - $7500 depending on how much content editing you need. Budgets may also require location fees, paid actors, special equipment rental or background music licencing in the final edit (see rate sheet)
